Day 1 – leadup to surgery
I am placed on to a hospital bed and wheeled to the operating room hallways. There, I nervously observe patients pre and postoperative being brought to and fro. A cheerful anesthesiologist approaches to brief me. “what do you do?” “social work” “switch fields, hardest job in this hospital ”
Moments later I was wheeled into the operating room. This was probably the scariest moment of my hospital stay. Asked to pull myself on to the operating bed, I did as I observed the bright lights and the multitude of surgical tools. The iv tube was placed into my arms and the medicine was pumped in accompanied by a stinging, paralyzingly pain. With the mask placed on to my face, I lost consciousness within seconds.
